Deep links from Microsoft Office to a document do not work

Symptoms

Deep links from Microsoft Office to a document do not work. They work with other applications but not with Microsoft Office.

Cause

The "issue" is related to Microsoft Office, which blocks it by default because of the way Office opens links.

Solution

Force Office to use the Windows way of opening links. You can find some description of the issue here.

Download the ForceShellExecute.zip and apply the registry changes to your Windows system.
