How to create a new translation
Before starting a new translation, please check if it is available in the Language translations section.
A sample of a new language based on Oromo from Ethiopia
The first step is identifying what your language code is based on ISO 639 (level 2). Looking at the table of language identifiers, the code might be "om-ET".
The second step is to get the country flag; in this case, Ethiopia. Download the flag icons. The flag icon names are based on ISO 369 (one level), which means we are looking for a file named "et.gif".
The third step will be to create the new language. Go to Administration > Languages and create a new language with these values:
- Click on
the new language icon.
- Fill in the fields
- The "id" might be "om-ET".
- The "name" might be "Oromo".
- The "icon" might be the file named "et.gif".
- Click on the Create button.
Once the new language has been created, you must set the translations:
- Click on
the Edit language icon.
- Change the fields.
- Click on the Edit button.
Finally, consider sharing your translation with the community.
- Click on
the Export language translations icon.
- The application retrieves a SQL file containing the language translations.
- Contact us via the website contact form and we will tell you how to share the translation with us.
